5th September
With the summer starting to draw to a close, this is a great time to start thinking about the great cooking we'll be doing with all of the fabulous Autumn fayre. We've been busy over the past couple of months and here's what's new..
Wild & Organic Venison from Bridwell Park, Devon
Classified as Wild and Organic the Fallow deer from Bridwell Park in Devon is beautifully succulent, a bit like young beef and much sweeter than the traditional Red deer that is mostly found in the shops. Available from the first week October we're having a whole carcass prepared for Deli Shack Customers, but as always it'll be on a first come first served basis, so email your orders in early please.
Rare breed beef
There's a couple of treats in store from local farms in regard of rare breed beef. We've got longhorn and Belted Galloway pencilled in for the beggining of November. Country Life voted these two breeds respectively first and third best steak producers in Britain, horay for traditional breeds!! We'll be selling this amazing 21 day aged and grass finshed beef in 5Kg boxes (to ensure that the farmer gets a fair distribution of the different cuts) for £60 each. Included in the box are;
-
4 Rump Steaks (approx. 250g each)
-
2 Sirloin Steaks (approx. 250g each)
-
1 Topside Roasting Joint (approx. 1.5Kg)
-
2 Pack of Mince (approx. 500g each)
-
2 Packs of Casserole Steak (approx. 500g each)
We'll probably be allocated ten boxes of each so if you're interested please email me your order and I'll contact you when the meat is ready.
If you'd like to see what other breeds we've been selling over the summer have a look at our Rare Breed Meat Section.
Rare breed Pork
Towards the end of October we'll be able to offer fresh Large Black pork. We get this wonderful meat from a local farm who themselves are member of the RBST and a lovely couple to boot! If you'd like to place an order then please email me and I'll make sure that I put what you want side.
Award winning Pates
The guys at Pymans Pates have really excelled themselves this summer and come up with a fabulous range of new pates, all of course gluten free.
Award winning Preseves, Jellies and Jams
Victoria Cranfield has one of the best reputations for preserve and chutney making that you'll find anywhere in the country. We've added lots more to choose from, so please have a look at our new range of preserves and chutneys
Artisan Cheese
We've just added the magnificent Beenliegh Blue, a blue cheese made from ewes milk. One of only four hand made ewes milk blues in the country, go on, spoil yourself.
Don't forget, if you want to look through our cheese selection you can browse using the cheese selector which will give you the opportunity to define your preferences.
Smokin'Tapas
Geoff Odgers, a notable chef and lecturer in Devon has started an events business called Smokin' Tapas, which is all about great food with lots of theatre thrown in for good measure. So if you'd like something a little bit different the next time you're hosting an event, drop Geoff a line here at The Deli Shack at geoff@delishack.com
A Big Thank You
The Deli Shack now has over 400 registered customers and I'd like to thank each and every one of you for your support.
We started this business three years ago with a view to supplying key ingriedents to people who enjoy cooking, but along that road we also became a place where regional and local producers in the South West can come and display their produce.
If you've got a couple of minutes we thought you might like to see where all of the products that you'll find on our website get tested and selected for you to have a look at.
26th June 2010
New Pork Supplier
Partridge farm, Tiverton will be supplying us with their beautiful Large Black pork this week. Duncan and Hannah are two of the nicest people you’ll meet and are totally committed to maintaining rare breeds and ethical farming policies. They’ll be at the Pannier Market on Friday and Saturday to demonstrate some of their wares, so if you can please come down and say hello or have a look at their website at http://www.partridgefarmtiverton.com/
New Pate supplier
Pymans Pates are now supplying us with a range of fabulous, gluten free and award winning pates, all made right here in Devon. Come down and have a taste, they’re fabulous. If you’d like to learn more about Pymans go to http://www.pymanpates.co.uk/
New Cheeses
We’ve introduced lots of new cheeses recently so why not use our unique ‘Cheese Selector’ to select the criterion that you’re looking for and hey presto you’ll get a listing of all of the cheeses that we now stock that fits the bill. It’s really simple to use and makes browsing a pleasure.
We’re members of the Rare breed Survival Trust
The Rare Breed Survival Trust (RBST) is an National organisation which promotes and supports the breeding of wholly traditional beef, sheep and pigs. Practically all of the fresh meat we buy today has been crossed with larger animals to increase yield and reduce costs. The key issue here is that in a short period of time we’ll lose our traditional pure breeds forever and that just doesn’t seem right , so by sourcing through appointed RBST butchers and breeders (such as Partridge Farm) we will be selling the very best of traditional West Country pure bred meats.
Longhorn beef
There’s an opportunity to buy Longhorn beef at the beginning of August. As before we’ll need to make this a meat box offer to make sure that we all take a fair share of the different cuts available. What we’ve done for the summer is increased the quantity of steak and mince in the box, so plenty of opportunity to fire up the BBQ. You can order on line or drop into the Pannier Market.
20th April 2010
We have the opportunity to buy fresh wild & organic Fallow deer from Bridwell Park in Uffculme. The owners are going to give us a promotional price of 10% off, so as usual if you're interested please get in contact or order directly from the website. Fallow dear has a less gamey and more meaty taste so it really is different and very good. If you'd like to try some I'll be sampling a roast of haunch, so please feel to drop by.
We're also introducing the most wonderful natural fruit jellies, preserves and chutneys from Cranfield Foods, near Lynmouth. Award winning and bursting with flavour I'm sure you'll love them
12th April 2010
New recipe from Charlotte for lamb burgers, chopped rosemary and cumin which I thought was a bit unusual. Absolutely lovely though.
I’ll bring some extra Dartmoor Lamb mince in this weekend and take 10% off to promote it, so if you fancy having a go then just drop me a quick line and I’ll put some aside because as always it’ll be on a first come, first served basis.
Also new this week is a new cheese selection guide which as far as I know is pretty much unique to The Deli Shack. The selector allows you to set the key attributes of kind of cheese that you would like to try and then offers a selection based on that criterion. This new section will herald the beginning of an expansion to our Artisan cheese offering, so keep a eye out for new things to try.
23rd March 2010
New recipe for belly pork by Charlotte Lampard added to the recipe section. Please note that Charlotte’s kitchen at Yearlstone Vineyard is opening this weekend, so if you get a chance drop in and see what goodies she’s got on the menu.
For this recipe we'll be using a lean belly pork taken from a heard of free range pedigree Duroc pigs, so don't worry about the meat being too fatty.
